ECSTASY: The psycho-physical condition that accompanies the apprehension of what one experiences as the ultimate reality which may differ in its definition.
ECTOPLASM: A white, fluidic substance said to eminate from the bodily orifices of a medium that is molded by spirits to assume phantom physical shapes. It supposedly manifests as a solidified white mist which has been photographed and has a peculiar smell. It is damaged by exposure to light which is a reason given for seances being held in the dark or dimly lit rooms.
It was the subject of extensive studies by psychical researchers into the twentieth century. Although many witnesses have testified to the actuality of ectoplasm, it's existence has never been proven.
EMPATHY: Tuning in on an
intuitive or psychic level to the emotions, moods and attitudes of a
person, group of people or animals. It falls between the conscious and
nonconscious levels.
ESOTERIC: A term meaning the deep, inner meaning of anything.
Exoteric is its opposite term, meaning the other, obvious, external or
superficial meaning of something. Esoteric science is a term often used
to describe aspects of metaphysics such as clairvoyance, telepathy, use
of the tarot, astrology, numerology and techniques such as meditation,
concentration exercises and visualization.
EXTRASENSORY PERCEPTION (ESP): A so-called "sixth sense" in which
sensory information is perceived through means beyond the fives senses
of sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste.
